Rogue Coaching School

Saturday most of Rogue’s coaches got together for the annual coaching school. This year’s coaching school featured a couple speakers. The first speaker was Ashley McLean, she is an Ekin from Nike. Ashley came bearing terrific gifts and a lot of enthusiasm! Each coach receive a Nike + sports band and learned through Ashley how to use it. Next gift was a pair of Nike running shoes, Nike shorts, Nike top, Nike jacket or vest, as well as the Nike bag and water bottle. Thanks Jean, Ashley & Steve…

Second up were Carmen & Ricardo Troncoso. Carmen & Ricardo of the famous Tronky training team and Rogue Performance group Tuesday/Saturday were here to speak about pre workout stretching & drills. As usually the Tronky’s gave a stellar performance! The crowd of coaches soaked in the great information about teaching, demonstrating and doing running drills.

Then we heard from the founder and head coach Steve Sisson. Steve went on to explain the 4 energy systems used in running, and the Rogue philosophy in run training. Steve talked about the differences between the Lydraid system the Rogue Team is using & the more traditional system called the mulit paced system that most of the Rogue Training groups use.  Steve explained that because of the limited number of weeks each of each program, the attention span of participants for longer more tedious runs & most importantly the need to race a 5k,10k or half marathon to marathon by Austinite!

Then it was on to Amy Anderson to discuss many of the ins & outs of coaching.  Amy review injury prevention methods with the Rogue ASP (Athlete Support System), as well as the stages of injury that most athletes take when injured.  Amy went onto present effective coaching methods, from on to get the attention of your runners, to learning names, to how to work with different personalities effectively.  Amy’s presentation really was the meat & potatoes of daily coaching.   Amy also pulled together years of coaching binders into one more usu able manual for everyone to use.  It was a great day of learning and  talking.  Thanks everyone who help Rogue put on another kick ass coaching school.
